Trampoline Tips for Hot Weather: Protecting Kids from Heat and Sun

As the summer sun scorches the earth, children’s enthusiasm for trampolines remains undiminished. Watching them joyfully bounce on the trampoline brings parents great delight, but it also raises concerns: Could the intense heat and sunlight harm their children? Don't worry. By following these practical tips, your kids can enjoy bouncing safely and happily even in sweltering weather.

1. Before Using the Trampoline: Adequate Preparation is Key

  • Time Selection: Avoid the hottest hours from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. when outdoor temperatures often exceed 35°C (95°F) and ground temperatures approach 50°C (122°F), increasing the risk of heatstroke. Opt for early morning (7 - 9 a.m.) with fresh, cool air or late afternoon (6 - 8 p.m.) with gentle afterglow and lower temperatures for trampoline play.
  • Site Arrangement: Place the trampoline under a large tree for natural sunshade. If not possible, use professional sunshade nets or large patio umbrellas. Set up an electric fan nearby and prepare basins of cold water with wet towels for cooling during breaks.
  • Equipment Preparation:
    • Sun Protection Gear: Equip children with wide - brimmed sun hats, breathable sun - protective clothing, and children’s sunglasses.
    • Sunscreen: Choose children - labeled sunscreen with SPF 30+ and water - resistant properties. Apply evenly to exposed areas 15 - 30 minutes before going out and reapply every 2 - 3 hours, especially after sweating or wiping.
    • Clothing: Dress kids in loose, absorbent cotton short - sleeved shirts and shorts.

2. While Using the Trampoline: Careful Attention at Every Moment

  • Playtime Control: Limit continuous play to 15 - 20 minutes, followed by 5 - 10 - minute breaks to “recharge” kids’ energy.
  • Hydration: Provide room - temperature plain water or light salt water in a thermos. Teach children to take small sips (10 - 15 ml each time) to avoid gastrointestinal issues.
  • Supervision and Safety: Keep a close watch on children. If they show signs of red face, excessive sweating, dizziness, or nausea (possible heatstroke symptoms), immediately move them to a cool, ventilated area, loosen their collar, wipe with a wet towel, offer water, and seek medical help if symptoms persist.

3. After Using the Trampoline: Thorough Care is a Must

  • Cleaning and Cooling: Wipe children’s bodies with warm - wet towels to remove sweat. For heavy sweaters, allow warm showers (37 - 38°C / 98.6 - 100.4°F) to prevent colds.
  • Skin Care: Check for sunburn. Apply aloe vera gel for mild redness. For severe cases with extensive sunburn, peeling, or pain, consult a dermatologist promptly.
  • Trampoline Inspection: Examine the trampoline for loose springs or unstable frames due to thermal expansion and contraction. Shake gently to check for abnormal wobbling and inspect springs for deformation or breakage.
  • Continuous Supervision: Always accompany children during play and ensure they follow safety rules, avoiding dangerous actions like standing jumps or climbing guardrails.

The sweltering summer can’t dampen children’s love for trampolines. As long as parents take the above protective measures, they can build a safety barrier for their children.
